EAA Scholarships: Supporting Your Aviation Dreams
Are you wondering about becoming a pilot or already wanting to get an additional rating? Regarding your aviation dreams, the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) has it all for you! In particular, the organization’s awarded scholarships, are supported by benefactors, devoted donors, and other philanthropists who assist keep these programs going.
Donations like these, enable Experimental Aircraft Association to provide over $135,000 of grant money to students enrolled in flight training every year. According to this year’s awards, 31 students successfully pursued their dreams of flight.
One application is used for ALL scholarships. Applicants will be considered for each one for which they qualify. The scholarship committee evaluates all applications based on the individual criteria. They then award the scholarships to candidates who are most likely to become active participants in aviation activities.
Key Considerations for Experimental Aircraft Association Scholarship Applications
- Our main concern is pursuing applicants and those interested in aviation. Non-aviation involvement and contributions to organizations are also recognized.
- Your application will stand out to the screening committee if you volunteer for local organizations, whether they are aviation-related or not.
- Membership in an EAA, or local chapter is optional, however, we give priority to potential applicants who are a member or belong to any of the above-mentioned clubs.
- To apply, the minimum GPA required is 2.5. However, some individual scholarships have been identified whose GPA requirements may be higher.
- An applicant must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen, resident, or eligible for work/study through a visa.
Available EAA Scholarships
- Air Academy Alumni Scholarship: This program is aimed at preparing beginners who want to fly solo or get a private pilot certificate. Eligible applicants must have participated in EAA’s Air Academy as a camper or staff member, without a private pilot certificate.
- Chapter 439 Vliegned Scholarship: Ideal candidates are aged 16-22 for a private pilot certificate or under 35 for additional ratings. This program supports students from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula or Northeast Wisconsin in pursuing flight training.
- Noah Favaregh Flight Training Scholarship: Helps a student who has already gone it alone but requires financial support to finish their training.
- Richard R. Harper Memorial Scholarship: It includes two awards: one to the Young Eagle and the other to the Eagle Flight participant, aimed at providing support to student pilots who are financially needy and have a minimum GPA of 3.8. Richard R. Harper, a U.S. Army and UPS pilot, created these scholarships to mentor and inspire others in aviation.
- WASP Endowment Fund: This program is designed to offer funding for Young Eagles flight training programs exclusively, irrespective of EAA’s Aviation Foundation. It also facilitates one internship in the association’s Air Academy summer programs.
