Canadian Aviation Electronics (CAE) is actively working on developing a new educational application for the Apple Vision Pro mixed-reality headset, which will certainly change the aspect of pilot training. This app uses spatial computing to revolutionize cockpit training, enabling aviators to learn anytime, anywhere.
The app, which is still in its alpha testing stage, was demonstrated on the Bombardier Global 7500 flight deck at the NBAA-BACE conference in Las Vegas. The application is expected to be released in Spring 2025. The immediate emphasis is on the Global 7500 – CAE’s plans are to make the app usable with all aircraft types.

Apple Vision Pro: A Way To Improve Pilot Training
Apple has created its first spatial computing device, the Apple Vision Pro, that enables its users to engage with digital environments through interaction with both eye and hand movements. Its price is $3,499 and its availability is in the US starting in early 2024. The device serves as the basis for the app. This partnership introduces a modern approach to pilot training. Aviators can now access a virtual, realistic cockpit from home or hotels.
“The strength and the features of Apple Vision Pro together with CAE’s schooling environment will make it easier for pilots as well as allow sufficient preparation for the transition from ground school to the simulator,” noted Alexandre Prévost, Canadian Aviation Electronics’s Division President, Business Aviation Training.
CAE leverages technology to enhance training methods, addressing the growing demand for new captains in the aviation industry. “…with CAE’s training environment, will give pilots more flexibility and better prepare them for the transition from ground school to the simulator” stressed Prévost.

Immersive Training Program
The app features three interactive modes that aim to develop the aviation skills of the pilots:
- Exploration Mode
In this setting, users may play with various controls and receive detailed descriptions of their purposes. This part is meant to orient the users to the features and layout of the cabin. - Guided Mode
This educational mode encourages VR glasses owners to follow procedures hierarchically. Moreover, it helps them understand specific processes within the broader context of actions like flying the aircraft. - Cockpit Interaction Mode
In this mode, the future aviators perform real-life actions in the artificial cockpit. The tasks include actions like pulling and flipping the main battery switch. Practicing these tasks builds muscle memory for real flight scenarios.
“This Apple Vision Pro app developed by CAE will allow pilots to familiarize themselves with the flight deck, practice critical procedures, and develop muscle memory for key functions from anywhere,” stated Emmanuel Levitte, Canadian Aviation Electronics Chief Technology and Product Officer.
NexGen Solutions: Bridging the Gap between Ground School to Simulators
One of the most significant advantages of the application is its ability to ease the transition from ground school to simulator sessions. By interacting with realistic cockpit environments, future pilots can refine their skills and boost their confidence.
“This Apple Vision Pro app developed by CAE will allow pilots to familiarize themselves with the flight deck, practice critical procedures, and develop muscle memory for key functions from anywhere,” stated Emmanuel Levitte, CAE Chief Technology and Product Officer.

Broad Applications Across Aviation
As the focus of the Bombardier Global 7500 changes, even the most basic use of the app is always intended to expand to other aircraft types. It can serve as a toaster to other solutions that Canadian Aviation Electronics has in place for flights, either for business or scale piloting purposes.
Leveraging spatial computing to accurately produce life-like interactions all within the cabin enclosure. The application is aimed at allowing pilots to conduct schooling tasks that are mainly carried out at training centers. This significantly reduces time and costs compared to traditional pilot training methods.
Future Prediction
This groundbreaking app will soon launch, reshaping aviation training and equipping pilots for modern challenges. Furthermore, not just Apple but also will AI Tutor form the future of aviation.
